The Gombe AGILE Project has commenced a five-day Training of Trainers program under its Life Skills Component to ensure effective implementation of the initiative across Gombe State.

Organized in collaboration with the Guidance and Counselling Association of Nigeria, the training was held at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Gombe State AGILE Project Coordinator, Dr. Amina Haruna Abdul, represented by the Deputy Project Coordinator, Aishatu Sambo, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the project’s success.

Dr. Abdul described life skills as pivotal to the initiative, empowering adolescent girls with critical knowledge and fostering long-term impact.

She called on participants to actively contribute to achieving the project’s goals.

The World Bank’s National Team Lead, Mrs. Dorcas Kodangs Yakubu, commended the solid foundation laid for the Life Skills Component and emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to project guidelines, warning against any deviations.

Walida Maryam Muhammad, Gombe State Component Lead on Life Skills, explained that the program equips master trainers with foundational life skills knowledge to enable them to train public school teachers statewide.

Participants included representatives from tertiary institutions, faith-based organizations, and guidance and counseling groups.

The program covered sessions on Life Skills, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and practical demonstrations of Safe Space activities.

This initiative underscores the Gombe AGILE Project’s commitment to improving educational opportunities and the overall well-being of adolescent girls in the state.
