From Abubakar Rabilu, Gombe

Gombe Local Government has distributed free maternal and delivery kits to 400 pregnant women as part of efforts to promote safe motherhood and curb maternal and infant mortality in the area.

The exercise, held at the Gombe Township Maternity, was flagged off by the council chairman, Barr. Sani Ahmad Haruna (Wakilin Arewan Gombe).

Haruna said the initiative was in line with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s directive to strengthen primary healthcare services across the state.

He explained that the kits contained essential supplies to support women from early pregnancy to delivery and ensure safer childbirth.

The chairman also launched a new campaign to reduce maternal and child deaths, directing the council’s health department to commence free blood test screenings for expectant mothers across all maternity centres.

He noted that early detection of complications would help safeguard the health of mothers and their babies.

Haruna commended Governor Yahaya’s leadership in prioritising maternal and child health,.

Beneficiaries and residents praised the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that would ease financial burdens and improve the wellbeing of families.
