From Abubakar Rabilu Gombe
The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) joined the global community in commemorating the World Civil Defence Day, highlighting its vital role in maintaining security and safety across the state.
Addressing officers and men of the command during the celebration, Commandant Gyama Gyawiya described the event as an opportunity to reflect on the Corps’ dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
He praised the commitment of his personnel and led a symbolic road walk to mark the occasion.
Gyawiya spotlighted the efforts of the NSCDC Agro Rangers unit, emphasizing their critical role in protecting farmers and preventing clashes with herders, particularly during harvest seasons.
“The Agro Rangers unit is devoted to fostering peaceful coexistence in agricultural communities,” he said.
The Commandant expressed gratitude to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for boosting the command’s operational capacity by refurbishing patrol vehicles and donating three additional ones.
He also acknowledged the Gadam community for generously donating a Hilux vehicle to support NSCDC operations in the area.
As part of the celebration, 300 officers and personnel participated in a rally through major streets in Gombe to demonstrate the Corps’ readiness to address security challenges.
Despite these efforts, Gyawiya highlighted the issue of inadequate manpower and encouraged citizens to apply for recruitment when the portal reopens.
The theme of this year’s celebration, “Guarantee of Security for the Population,” aligns with the NSCDC’s mission to protect lives, property, and critical national assets.
Commandant Gyawiya reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to professionalism, patriotism, and excellence. He also outlined the NSCDC’s progress in intelligence gathering, crisis response, disaster management, and infrastructure protection.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to enhance the Corps’ operational capacity in tackling security challenges.
“On this special day, I urge all officers and men of the Gombe State Command to uphold the core values of integrity, discipline, and service to humanity,” Gyawiya said.
The event highlighted the NSCDC’s essential role in fostering peace and security while celebrating its achievements and renewing its commitment to protecting citizens.
World Civil Defence Day is observed annually on March 1, emphasizing the global mission of civil defence in safeguarding lives and properties.
