Gombe Women Ministry Partners with CSOs to Enhance Girl Child Education

From Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe

The Gombe State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is reinforcing its commitment to advancing girl child education by strengthening its partnership with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

During a recent stakeholders’ meeting, Commissioner Asma’u Muhammad Iganus called on CSOs to collaborate closely with the ministry to address educational challenges, especially in rural areas.

Commissioner Asma’u emphasized that CSOs, due to their direct engagement with communities, are better positioned to identify gaps in education that the ministry may not immediately notice.

She urged these organizations to align their efforts with the ministry’s objectives and report any issues observed in rural settings. “Working together will ensure we are all informed and able to respond to the needs on the ground more effectively,” she stated.

She further highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting that CSOs play a critical role in bringing attention to issues affecting the girl child.

The Commissioner pointed out that this partnership will enable both the ministry and the CSOs to access government support, leading to a more impactful approach in promoting education.

Ms. Adaline Waye Patari, Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Gombe State, echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to working alongside the ministry.

She emphasized NOA’s ongoing support in promoting girl child education and ensuring greater participation of women in developmental activities across the state.

Dr. Isiyaku Adamu, Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), commended the ministry for its inclusive initiatives that also cater to the needs of people with disabilities. He acknowledged the ministry’s efforts in supporting the disabled community and expressed JONAPWD’s continued partnership with the ministry.

Dr. Adamu also praised Commissioner Asma’u for her legislative contributions, particularly her role in passing the Child Rights Act during her tenure as a member of the State House of Assembly.

He called on her to continue advocating for the passage of the Disability Bill in state executive meetings, which would further secure rights and opportunities for people with disabilities.

The meeting underscored the need for strong collaboration between the ministry and CSOs to ensure the success of initiatives aimed at improving girl child education and supporting marginalized groups, including persons with disabilities. The stakeholders agreed that sustained advocacy and cooperation are key
