Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has expressed deep shock over the early morning fire outbreak at Bayan Tasha Market in Damaturu, which left traders counting significant losses.
In a statement issued by his Director General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammad, Governor Buni described the incident as unfortunate and ill-timed, given the current economic challenges faced by the people.
“This fire incident is sad, most unfortunate, and ill-timed considering the economic hardships faced by our people,” the governor stated.
Governor Buni directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately take stock of the number of affected shops and traders, as well as estimate the value of losses incurred.
While consoling the victims, the governor urged them to remain steadfast in their faith, saying, “As believers, nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator.” He prayed to Allah (SWT) to prevent future occurrences and to restore what was lost.
He also called on residents to adopt proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks, especially during the harmattan season. “We have had very sad experiences of fire outbreaks in homes, shops, and workplaces. It is crucial to take preventive measures to safeguard lives and property,” he advised.
Governor Buni further directed the Fire Service Department to remain on high alert during this windy season to respond promptly to potential fire emergencies.
