Gov. Buni Inspects Damaturu Flyover, Damaturu–Gambir Road Projects
From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Saturday inspected ongoing construction works at the Damaturu Flyover and Underpass, as well as the Damaturu–Gambir Road project.
According to a statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Buni was accompanied on the tour by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana; Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Dudaye; Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Mohammed Abacha; Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali; NEDC Executive Director, Dr. Garba Iliya; Special Advisers on Special Duties and Religious Affairs; and other top government officials.
At the Flyover and Underpass project site, the Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work.
“I am happy with the quality and speed of work on the project. The contractors have so far lived up to expectations with strict adherence to contractual agreements. When completed, this will greatly reduce congestion in the city centre and address the problem of flooding along Gashua Road,” Buni said.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Wakil Dudaye, who conducted the Governor around the site, noted that engineers from the ministry had been monitoring every stage of the project to ensure compliance and value for money. The contractors further assured the Governor that the project would be delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
Similarly, Governor Buni inspected the Damaturu–Gambir Road project for an on-the-spot assessment of its quality and progress. He described the road as a key economic asset that would ease the transportation of farm produce from surrounding agricultural communities to Damaturu.
“We have many farming communities that face challenges in moving their produce to Damaturu, where there is a huge market. This road will provide a lasting solution. I am glad the contractor has completed the earthwork and commenced overlay,” the Governor said.
Engr. Modu Bukar of Elegance Construction, the contractor handling the project, assured that the road would be completed within the next nine weeks.
