Gov Yusuf Gives Cash Assistance To Family Of Deceased Journalist, Others

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has presented cash assistance to the family of a deceased Journalist and some Journalists facing health challenges in the state.

Yusuf while presenting the cash assistance to the beneficiaries on Wednesday, described Journalists as key to societal development.

Represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Governor said the gesture was in recognition of the efforts of the journalists in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the state.

He said his administration would continue to partner with working journalists in the state with the aim of ensuring that the general public were duly informed about government activities.

The Governor reaffirmed the determination of his administration to provide transparent leadership for the wellbeing of the people of the state.

Those that benefitted from the gesture included Mr Ted Odogwu, Correspondent of The Punch Newspaper, who is victim of domestic gas explosion which occurred some months ago, who got one million Naira,Yakubu Salisu, Reporter of Blazon Newspaper who is a victim of a car accident that sustained spinal cord injury, who got N500,000.

Others were Auwal Mukhtar who was also a victim of a a car accident working with Abubakar Rimi Television,and was assisted with N500,000 and Bilkisu Ado Zango who was a staff of Radio Kano and was facing serious health challenges, and as such government supported her with N500,000.

And then Late Malam Abdullahi Yakubu who was the Correspondent of leadership Newspapers, whose family got N500,000.

In his remarks,the Chairman of the state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, lauded Governor Yusuf for the assistance and urged working journalists in the state to reciprocate the gesture by being more committed and dedicated to their job.
