Gov. Yusuf Lauds UNICEF, FCDO for Investments in Health, Education

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed gratitude to UNICEF and the Foreign, Commonwealth, Development Office (FCDO) for their significant investments in improving education and healthcare facilities across the state.

Speaking during a reception for UNICEF Country Representative Wafaa Saeed Abdullateef and FCDO Senior Education Advisor Joseph Wale at the Government House in Kano on Tuesday , the governor appreciated the development partners for their contributions, particularly in the health and education sectors.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, on Tuesday, Governor Yusuf said the interventions, which include the renovation of 28 schools and the provision of health facilities, align with his administration’s key policies.

“Today, you are in Kano to commission some of the major projects executed by UNICEF and the FCDO in the state, including a Solarize oxygen plant at Muhammad Buhari Specialist Hospital, which is the first of its kind in the state in terms of its size.

“I must say that UNICEF and the FCDO are true friends of Kano. Our relationship has been in place for quite some time, and Kano State has benefited from various forms of assistance, including infrastructure and health facilities. I am therefore very grateful to all of you,” the governor stated.

Governor Yusuf noted that the interventions are not just mere infrastructure but are life-saving investments.

He added that the renovated schools would secure the future of our children and sustain a positive learning environment, while the health facilities would provide citizens with access to essential services.

He informed the visitors that “since we came into office, we have been working tirelessly to ensure free education and health for our dear citizens.”

The governor added that the government is ready to collaborate further with the development partners for the benefit of the people of the state.

Earlier, UNICEF Country Representative, Mrs. Abdullateef said her organisation is satisfied with the current administration’s programmes on out-of-school children and the polio eradication campaign, noting that they are yielding positive results.

On his part, FCDO Senior Education Advisor, Joseph Wales, reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the state government and the United Kingdom in many development sectors.

He disclosed that over 90 million pounds have been set aside for further interventions in the country.

In his welcome address, the state Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, stated that the development partners were at the Government House to brief the governor on the achievements recorded through their collaboration.
