Gov. Yusuf launches “Operation Nazafa” for cleaner city

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has initiated “Operation Nazafa” aimed at enhancing sanitation across the state.

The initiative involves the deployment of modern sweeping trucks and the refurbishment of 30 sweeping motorcycles.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Monday.

“This is a significant step forward for Kano State.

“Operation Nazafa will help us to create a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents,” the governor said.

During the launch ceremony, Governor Yusuf pledged to address the outstanding entitlements of casual and temporary workers affected by the previous administration’s tenure at the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board.

“These workers deserve to be compensated for their service.

“I have directed the relevant authorities to provide a comprehensive list of affected individuals so that we can take immediate action,” Governor Yusuf said.

The launch also included the unveiling of refurbished sweeping trucks that had been neglected during the previous administration.

Governor Yusuf commended the efforts of Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago, the Managing Director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board, and local engineers for revitalizing the fleet using minimal resources.

“This innovative approach demonstrates our commitment to finding efficient solutions,” Governor Yusuf said.

“We will no longer outsource repairs that can be completed here in Kano.”

While speaking Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago expressed gratitude for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s unwavering support towards the board, enabling them to refurbish sweeping trucks and tricycles for enhanced waste disposal efficiency under Operation Nazafa.

He emphasized the improved capabilities of the trucks, each now capable of performing the work equivalent to twenty individuals, significantly advancing Kano’s cleanliness objectives.
