Gov. Yusuf mulls partnership with Netherland govt on food security, climate change

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has sought the diplomatic support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to enhance food security and address the impact of climate change in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by Sanusi Bature, Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the governor discussed the proposed diplomatic partnership with the Dutch government on Tuesday during a meeting with Ms. Eva De Wit, First Secretary for Migration at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria.

During the meeting, Governor Yusuf highlighted the significant achievements of the Netherlands in agriculture and climate change mitigation in Europe. 

He expressed his administration’s eagerness to replicate these successful strategies in Kano.

“The Netherlands has achieved remarkable progress in agriculture and climate change mitigation.

“We are keen to establish a partnership to implement similar initiatives here in Kano.”

Governor Yusuf outlined various initiatives by his administration aimed at boosting youth productivity and ensuring food security in Kano. 

He also addressed the severe drug abuse issues inherited from the previous administration, noting that 24 skill acquisition centers have been reopened to provide meaningful employment for the youth.

Furthermore, the governor added that his government has reformed and rehabilitated approximately 713 youths previously involved in thuggery, through coordinated efforts with the Nigerian Police to reduce unrest in the state.

Ms. De Wit, accompanied by Mr. Laurent De Boeck, Chief of Mission for the International Organization for Migration, pledged to collaborate with the Kano state government in areas of youth empowerment, food security, and climate change.
