Gov. Yusuf sets up business elders advisory committee

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has announced the establishment of an advisory committee comprised of business elders to support the government in addressing economic challenges.

The governor emphasized the importance of tapping into the wisdom and experience of seasoned business leaders to curb financial mismanagement and foster discipline within the business community.

The Governor disclosed this during a meeting with members of the business community in the state on Monday at the Africa House, Government House, Kano.

Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the prevailing hunger crisis in the state, noting the difficulties faced by many in affording essential food items due to soaring prices.

He urged businessmen to offer essential commodities at affordable rates to alleviate the suffering of the people, emphasizing the need for collective action to address the current situation.

“We should be able to come up with the formation of a business elders committee within the business community in Kano to save our people from starvation.”

“It is the poor masses who suffer the most, as prices of most foodstuffs have risen. It is a compulsory responsibility for us to come together to salvage the situation as it stands today.

“Let me assure you that the Kano State government is fully committed to providing maximum cooperation.

“I believe that with your understanding, we will find solutions to this.”

Present at the meeting were prominent businessmen including Alhaji Ibrahim BBY, Alhaji Muhammadu Adakawa, Sammani El Samad, and Alhaji Salisu Sambajo among others.

During discussions, some businessmen cited factors such as high exchange rates, production costs, unreliable power supply, and border closures contributing to inflation.

They urged the governor to seek federal intervention to stabilize exchange rates.

Additionally, the governor emphasized the importance of maintaining clean business environments to ensure public health and safety.
