Governor Buni’s Aide Cautions Metal Scavengers in Yobe
From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam, has issued a warning to the public, particularly metal scavengers known as Baban Bola, against collecting and transporting scrap and other abandoned metal objects from other areas into the state.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser, the warning was deemed necessary following the detonation of an abandoned unexploded ordnance picked up by unsuspecting scavengers.
“These individuals were crossing over from the deserted parts of Sambisa Forest to the Goniri area, resulting in injuries to five people”
“The public is advised to report any suspicious objects or movements of persons in their communities”
“The military Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is working around the clock to safely dispose of any potential devices that may have been abandoned in past years” he noted.
