Governor Namadi Appeals to Tinubu for Completion of Hadejia River Valley Projects

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to finalize the remaining 25% of the Hadejia River Valley projects, emphasizing the critical role it plays in enhancing food security across the nation.

Speaking at the official launch of the 2023 Dry Season Wheat Development project under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme (NAGS-AP) in Kadume village, Hadejia, Jigawa State, the governor highlighted that this unfinished portion, covering over 60,000 hectares, had been abandoned since the Shagari administration in the 1980s.

“On behalf of the people of Jigawa, I appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for the completion of the remaining 25% of the Hadejia River Valley projects, spanning over 60,000 hectares,” Governor Namadi urged.

He stressed that besides lifting thousands out of poverty, the project’s completion aligns with President Tinubu’s food security agenda and the state’s twelve-point agenda.

During his address, Agriculture Minister Alhaji Abubakar Kyari commended Jigawa for utilizing 40,000 hectares out of the allocated 100,000 for the 2023 dry season wheat project by the federal government.

Kyari explained that the NAGS-AP project aims to boost food security, generate job opportunities, and boost the economy. Over 41,000 wheat farmers in Jigawa benefited from support packages, including fertilizers, improved seeds, solar irrigation machines, agro-chemicals, and sprayer machines.

The Minister pledged continued federal government support to farmers, emphasizing the commitment to fortifying food security and empowering the youth demographic in the country.
