Governor Namadi unveils APC candidate for Garki/Babura Federal Constituency bye-election

Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi today officially unveiled the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the forthcoming House of Representatives bye-election for the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the Government House, Dutse, was attended by top government officials and key party stakeholders from Garki and Babura Local Government Areas.

During the event, the APC nomination form was formally presented to Alhaji Rabi’u Mukhtar, who emerged as the party’s consensus candidate.

In his address, Governor Namadi commended party leaders and members from both LGAs for conducting themselves with maturity and foresight throughout the selection process, describing their unity as a model of internal democracy and responsible leadership.

“I can beat my chest and swear that, by God, there is absolutely no element of selfish interest in this matter. Since the beginning of this process, I have never, even in jest, told anyone who I prefer or support. Leadership is a garment bestowed by God; He gives it to whomever He wills, at the time He wills,” the governor said.

Governor Namadi warned against putting personal interest in the selection of candidates, stating that true leadership lies in consistently praying for the best outcome for the people.

He also prayed for APC’s success at the polls and sought divine guidance for the candidate if elected.

The governor further praised the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by other aspirants, acknowledging their acceptance of the consensus decision and their presence at the unveiling as a sign of true submission to God’s will.

“Only those who surrender to Allah’s will can exhibit such noble conduct. I urge the candidate to reach out to his co-aspirants and bring everyone on board to ensure victory for our great party,” he added.

Governor Namadi stressed the strength of unity within the APC in Jigawa State, describing it as a “solid brotherhood” that has enabled the party to overcome challenges.

In his acceptance remarks, Alhaji Rabi’u Mukhtar expressed gratitude to the governor and all stakeholders for the transparent and inclusive process that led to his emergence, pledging to work closely with all members of the party to ensure APC’s resounding victory in the upcoming bye-election.

“This is not a personal victory; it is a collective mandate. I am committed to carrying everyone along in this journey,” he said.

It may be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled August 16, 2025, for the bye-election in the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency, following the sudden demise of Hon. Isa Dogonyaro in May 2024.
