Gratuities: Zamfara Puts Smiles on 5,000 LGAs Retirees
From Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau
Zamfara State Government has embarked on payments of gratuities to over 5,000 local government retired workers as 494 already received their payments after due verification by the ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
This is made known to newsmen by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Malam Garba Ahmad Gusau, who also is the Chairman of the committee of the verification and payments of the backlog gratuities.
Speaking today (Tuesday), the Chairman of the committee, said the committee has the period of 30 days to complete the exercise despite some challenges ranging from processing payments for the dead beneficiaries and the missing of parts of integral documents presented by some retirees.
“For those who found some of their required documents missing as result of either fire accident or misplacement, we suggested they should obtain clearing letters from the courts”, Malam Garba has stressed.
He called on the beneficiaries to ensure judicial use of their monies in supporting their families and on the other hand to establish small scale businesses to support their living.
