Group Decries Escalating Kano Emirate Crisis,Tasks Supreme Court

By Abdullahi Yusuf

A group, Coalition of Political Analysts Forum, Democracy Protectors and Good Governance, has decried what it described as an escalating dimension of the Kano Emirate tussle, describing the crisis as “disturbing.”

The Forum,in a statement circulated to newsmen in Kano on Thursday, lamented that the Emirship crisis is taking a dangerous turn, fanning embers of disunity and misunderstanding among the people of the state.

The statement which was signed by the group’s Executive Director, Comrade Al-Amin Albarra, and its National Secretary, Malam Saminu Abubakar, also described the trend as unfortunate.

It therefore urged the Supreme Court to expedite action in the case concerning the tussle now before it, in order to resolve it once and for all.

The coalition said a judgement in the case would enable the people of the state to know who is the legally turbarned among the two Emirs embroiled in the tussle.

“There is a growing interest among members of the general public for the highest bench of Judges to expedite action on the year-long tussle about who is the legally appointed Emir of Kano.

“We, the Coalition of Political Analysts Forum, Democracy Protectors and Good Governance are primarily disturbed by the dangerous dimension this case is taking in which a constitutionally settled matter is being hijacked by all comers intending to create chaos, mischief and reckless intervention in the legal process.

“The esteemed attention of the honourable Supreme Court Judges is called by this coalition to use their wise counsel to determine the legal powers of creating traditional institutions in our democratic setting,”the group added.
