Gunmen kill 3, abduct 14 in Zamfara community

Armed bandits had invaded Mayanchi town under Maru local government council of Zamfara State killing three persons and abducted fourteen others including the Chairman of the Vigilante group and two daughters of late pioneer Chairman state owned Legacy newspaper.

Narrating the incident, a member of the affected community who identified self as Malam Abdullahi Mayanchi and narrowly escaped the attack, said the armed bandits came in their hundreds on bikes exactly around 11:00pm last Monday and operated unchallenged.

Mayanchi further revealed that, the bandits have chosen the time as it was raining then when everyone retired for the day leaving only members of the Vigilante group patrolling the town as usual, “They were sighted grouping themselves outside the town before the rain began to fall.

“Later there was a heavy rain fall when the bandits immediately rushed into the town and launched a house to house checks while many of them were shooting sporadically as they rode their bikes from one angle of the town to another aimed at securing away any possible attempt for rescue.

“All the abducted victims have been picked in their rooms, only that for those who resist their invitation would be killed instantly. The nasty operation which lasted for about two hours was hitch free as there was no response to numerous calls made for security operatives”, Malam Mayanchi has cried.

It would be recalled that, armed bandits have intensified their filthy operations in the state making legitimate activities almost difficult to run across the 14 local government councils of the state.

Contacted for comment, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Yazid Abubakar, said he would call the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area before responding to a question on any amount of possible effort made by the Police to rescue the victims.
