Hardships: Northern Youths, Students Coalition Urges Members To Shun Protests, Says Motives Unknown

By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Coalition of Concerned Northern Youths and Students has backed out of the planned nationwide protests against the prevailing economic hardships in the country.

The Coalition which took the decision during its two-day meeting in Kano, therefore, directed its members not to participate in the mass actions scheduled to begin from the end of this month.

Addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting on Tuesday, the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Jibril Sani Bello Gama, explained that they would not partake in the protests because they do not know their organizers and their motives.

“Dear Students and Youths, I strongly urge you to refrain from participating in the upcoming nationwide planned protests. The organizers of these protests are unknown, and we are uncertain whether their intentions are peaceful or violent.

“Your safety and well-being are our top priority. We understand the economic hardship in Nigeria, but as students, your future is paramount.

“This administration has shown consideration for students by making educational loans available without interest, ensuring that you can focus on your studies now and secure jobs in the future to repay these loans.

“Let’s prioritize our education and future success,”Gama said.

Recall that some faceless groups have issued a notice to Nigerians urging them to prepare for a nationwide mass action to protest against the Government’s alleged insensitivity to the plight of the people in its handling of the prevailing insecurity, poverty and hunger, among other problems bedeviling the nation.

The groups circulated their message on both the social media and traditional media platforms, penultimate week.
