Headquarters, said the directive was to ensure full operational readiness to combat fire outbreaks and other related emergencies associated with the dry season.

Abraham said the directive was issued during a virtual meeting with Zonal Controllers, where the Controller General formally launched the nationwide Harmattan Fire Safety Campaign, a proactive initiative aimed at reducing fire incidents during the period characterised by dry air, increased combustibility, and heightened festive activities.

Addressing the meeting, the Controller General warned members of the public to shun the use of fireworks, avoid bush burning, and desist from unsafe storage or transportation of flammable materials.

He stressing that such practices significantly increased fire risks during harmattan.

Olumode emphasised that prevention remained the most effective strategy in safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

To strengthen preparedness, the Controller General directed all zones to immediately submit the status of functional firefighting appliances within their areas of responsibility and announced plans to establish a Harmattan Monitoring Task Force to track incidents, enforce compliance, and coordinate response efforts throughout the season.

He further instructed zonal and state commands to identify and conduct fire safety inspections at worship centres, especially during festive gatherings, while intensifying public sensitisation activities.

The Controller General also underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration, directing commands to work closely with sister security and emergency agencies at the state level and to share intelligence that would enhance prevention, early warning, and rapid response.

The meeting reaffirmed the Federal Fire Service’s resolve to remain fully mobilised, proactive, and responsive in protecting lives and property nationwide during the high-risk season.
