Hausa/Fulani Group Alleges Political Marginalization in Fika LGA Speakership
From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
Concerned citizens, primarily of Hausa/Fulani descent from Ngalda in Fika LGA, have voiced their concerns over the alleged political imbalance in the selection of the Speaker for the Fika Local Government Council.
Alhaji Sule Ngalda, the leader of the group and Chief of Ngalda Market, spoke to our correspondent today. He stated, “Although we are politically neutral and not affiliated with any political group, we care deeply about the welfare of our people and are highly interested in the political happenings in Fika LGA.”
Ngalda emphasized the need for justice, equity, and fair play in the local government area, advocating for the Hausa/Fulani community to be adequately represented.
The group pledged to investigate the reasons behind the criticism faced by the nominated Speaker of Fika LGA Council, Yusuf Mohammed Auwal, a Hausa/Fulani elected Councillor representing Ngalda/Dumbulwa ward, by another elected representative from the LGA.
“Our preliminary research on the distribution of positions reveals that the elected Chairman of Fika LGA is Ngamo by tribe, the Vice Chairman is Bolewa, and the Councillors represent various tribes: Janga/Boza ward (Karai-Karai), Turmi/Maluri (Bolewa), Shoye/Garin Aba (Ngamo), Mubi/Fusami (Ngamo), Garu (Karai-Karai), Gudi/Dozi (Ngamo), Fika/Anze (Bolewa), Gadaka/Shembire (Ngamo), and Duffuyel/Zangaya (Ngamo). Despite their significant population, the Fulani have only one Councillor, and efforts are being made to prevent him from becoming the Speaker,” he noted.
He highlighted the substantial contributions of the Hausa/Fulani and other settlers to the success of the government during elections.
“We, therefore, appeal to the concerned stakeholders to allow the nominated Speaker of the LGA to continue with his work,” he concluded.
