Herders’ Group Praises Yobe Gov, Urges Other Northern States to Create Livestock Ministries

From Alhaji Yusuf, Damaturu

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has publicly commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for his unprecedented focus on the livestock sector in the state’s proposed 2026 budget, hailing it as a model for other Northern states to emulate.

In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, KACRAN highlighted Governor Buni’s inclusion of key initiatives in the N515.5 billion “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation.

According to the statement “These initiatives include the construction of veterinary clinics, provision of boreholes and earth dams, production of fodder, and vaccination of animals.”

A landmark step praised by the association is the recent establishment of a standalone Ministry of Livestock Development in Yobe State, headed by Alhaji Yerima Lawan Mahamud.

Citing these actions, KACRAN made a direct appeal to all other Northern Governors, urging them to follow Yobe’s example by;creating Special Ministries for Livestock Development and ensuring herders are included as direct beneficiaries of state policies and programs.

The association argued that this strategic inclusion is essential for transforming the livestock industry, improving food security, and fostering a sense of belonging for pastoralists.

KACRAN also extended its gratitude to Senator Mohammed Bomoi of Yobe South for his developmental projects, including constructing solar-powered boreholes in livestock-rich areas, and called on other Northern senators to adopt a similar approach.

The association strongly urged all pastoralists across Nigeria to refrain from destroying farms and to live in harmony with their host communities, especially during the ongoing harvesting season.
