Hisbah arrests couple for marrying at Kano restaurant
The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a man and his girlfriend for getting married at a Banana restaurant, located along Zoo Road in Kano State.
The couple whose marriage was solemnized at the restaurant, was said to have been in courtship for a long time before deciding to tie the knot at the popular restaurant.
The board’s Deputy Commander General in charge of operations, Dr. Mujahideen Aminu Abubakar confirmed the arrest of the lover birds to the Punch on Thursday.
He said the couple was arrested by the Hisbah personnel on Wednesday night during a raid on the restaurant following a tip off by some good samaritans.
“It’s very unfortunate to tell you that the solemnization of the purported marriage was conducted in the restaurant by friends of the man without the consent of the parents of the couple,” he said.
He warned that the Board would not fold its arms and allow some undesirable elements to continue to violate the shari’a in the state.
According to him, the board had since launched a manhunt for all the guests who participated in the illegal solemnization of the marriage.
“We arrested the couple while we are trailing friends of the groom who fled the restaurant after our personnel stormed the place,” he said.
The Deputy Commander said the couple violated all the marriage conditions which is a flagrant abuse of shari’a.
