House of Reps Member and Labour Party Leader Calls for Free, Fair LG Elections in Plateau State

Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency and Chairman of the Labour Party’s Campaign Council in Plateau State, Engr. Dalyop Chollom, has called for free and fair local government elections on October 9, 2024.
Chollom who bared his mind during a press briefing at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos on Tuesday acknowledged Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s inclusive policies and efforts to foster a harmonious environment in Plateau State.
He also commended the Plateau State Traditional Council and religious leaders for supporting the Governor’s initiatives by promoting peace and tolerance among communities.
Chollom also praised the composition of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) under Plangji Daniel Chishak, boosting confidence in credible elections.
Chollom accused PLASIEC of favoritism shown to a particular political party,and expressed concern over contradicting assurances of a level playing field.
He howerver urged PLASIEC to address this anomaly and ensure neutrality. Chollom also refuted claims that Labour Party candidates have stepped down and condemned the vandalization of their campaign materials.
The house of representative member called on stakeholders to as a matter of urgency beckons on PLASIEC to summon a meeting to discuss issues regarding the local government elections.
Chollom however said “For the state to experience Free and Fair Elections, PLASIEC must adhere to its statutory mandate and conduct transparent elections, reflecting the will of the masses”.
Chollom disclosed that the Labour Party will contest all positions and is committed to disputing issues concerning the 2027 general elections and urged electorates to vote for Labour Party candidates on October 9, 2024.
