The National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) Zone ‘A’ says it has suspended its participation in the nationwide protests against the prevailing hardships in the country scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The Association announced the suspension at a press conference held at the NUJ press centre,Kano,on Wednesday.
The Financial Secretary of the union, Comrade Isma’il Ambaddi, who announced the suspension said they took the decision having reflected on the likely disruptive implications of the protests on their academic calendar.
Ambaddi also said that the association arrived at the decision having consulted widely with its leaders and other stakeholders.
“Having reflected on the broader implications of the protests,we have realized the critical importance of ensuring that students do not engage in activities that might disrupt our academic calendar and delay our progress in school.
“This is specifically pertinent that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund(NELFUND) has been implemented, which is a significant milestone achieved by President Bola Tinubu administration.
“Because NELFUND aims to secure the payment of tuition fees and upkeep of Nigerian students while ensuring the stability of our academic.
“We strongly appreciate the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in addressing the challenges that have historically plagued our educational system, notably the resolution of incessant strikes that have hindered our academic progress,”he said.
He apologized to Nigerian students for earlier sensitizing them to partake in the planned protests.
