In Defense of Senator Rufai Hanga’s Unprecedented Imprints

History is full of testimonies, promises and antecedents that many important people across the world have been remembered for various reasons, and for becoming outstanding in human affairs, some for their simplicity, others for their generosity, many more for their compassion and still others for commendable act.

It is in this light that I bring you the Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District in the Red chamber of the national assembly, Distinguished Senator Rufai Sani Hanga who is always willing to serve, rather than to be served. I mean to serve the humanity despite the fact that the way is thorny, slippery, narrow, dusty, but easy, having in mind people like Hanga.

Sen. Rufa’i Hanga was born on 18th August, 1954 at Hanga Quarters of Kano Munincipal Local Government. A graduate of Accountancy with over 30 years’ experience in public service. Sen Rufa’I Hanga started his political journey in 1979. He was an active member of People’s Redemption Party (PRP) under late Mallam Aminu Kano. From that till now he is always at the progressive side of politics. Sen Rufa’i Hanga is one time Member Federal House of Representatives in 1992. He was elected as a Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial zone from 2003 to 2007. During his time as law maker in both chambers he chaired several Senate and House Committees.

Senator Hanga who doubles as the deputy minority whip is one of the few legislators who stood firm to ensure that they are not swallowed by the position they occupy, or the power they muster, the chance they got, the excuses they may give, the financial status they may possess, and the institutions they may have as defenders .Many others in his shoes, got intoxicated by the unlimited paraphernalia of power and ultimately got swallowed shrewdly by their positions thereby, forgetting their roles as servants and representatives of the people who sincerely elected them.

Senator Rufai Hanga was in the news recently for donating 5,000 pieces of white fabric clay pots and vehicles for conveying dead bodies to burial grounds.The senator, whose district covers 15 Local Government Areas, is an accountant who has been representing Kano Central since 2023, on the platform New Nigeria Peoples Party.He was at the senate between 2003-2007 with impressive legislative strides during his first stint at the National Assembly.

However due to the gravity of the lies contained in several sponsored media propaganda by cynics, it is pertinent to respond in order to correct them so as not to mislead the public by the agent of the falsehood . It is therefore commendable for commendations trailing the kind gesture of Senator Hanga on the conventional and social media platforms and discussions forums.

The current desperate attempt to drag the good name of Sen (DR) Rufai Hanga FCNA in order to diminish his towering political profile. For most of the last few days, Senator Hanga has been the subject of a vicious attack. This multi-dimensional campaign has one central objective: to destroy the personal reputation, public standing and political career of the Kano’s Central and influential man. Those enemies of his towering political profile can never bring him down through fake accusations, sponsored lies, reeked with falsehood, ignorance, and reckless, dumb and illogical analysis.

In 2023 when the Nigerian Senate searches for the best man to take the deputy minority whip, one name is usually ringing bell for this serious legislative task. He was a Senator Rufai Sani Hanga a ranking senator. He is delightful humanist, seasoned administrator, eloquent orator, pragmatic strategist, phenomenal legislator and parliamentary manager whose entire life is propelled by progressive ideas.

The Deputy Minority Whip is truly a representative of the people going by the amount of work he was able to do for the overall benefit of his constituents long despite having some health challenges that control his output. In fact, it worth elucidating that the Kano Central Senator was able to touch the lives of the people of since his resumption to legislative duty 20years after his first stint.

Among some of his giants constituency interventions are ;Payment of N45m registration fees for over 200 Kano central indigenous students in Bayero University Kano, scholarship for over 200 students to study at Kano state polytechnic, Empowerment of 1,116 Women across the 15 Local Governments of Kano central with a startup capital of N50,000 each, distribution of free JAMB scratch cards to 1,135 students in the Kano central, distribution of about 10,000 Books and other learning materials to primary schools pupils of Kano central.

Others are free medical outreach across the 15 L.Gs and 172 wards of Kano central, repaired boundless of Boreholes to put an end water scarcity in Kano central, construction of Islamiyya school at Gobirawa ward, Dala L.G, donated land to Mai kalwa community of Kumbotso L.G to expand the size of their mosque, distribution millet, maize, rice and other food items to the people of Kano central and secured permanent and pensionable federal government offers for the people of Kano central in Police,immigration,NSCDC,Central Bank Nigeria ,NNPC etc.

Senator Rufai Hanga has also line of the following constituency impactful programmes some ongoing or coming up before the end of the 2024 fiscal year; Construction of Women training center in Dala Local.Government, Construction of Zaria road to Garun babba in Garin Mallam L.G,Instructional materials and uniform for Islamiyya students across the 15L.G of Kano central , Supply of Motorcycles to Indigenes of Kano central, Supply and Installation of solar street light., construction of road from Ungogo to Minjibir L.G, empowerment training in fish processing and preservation for youths and women in Kano central, construction of Layin Makabarta road in kumbotso/Nasarawa L.Gs, supply of Instructional materials across the 15L.Gs and 172 wards in Kano central, purchase and Supply of Bicycles to primary school pupils of Kano central, constructions of solar street light across some communities in Kano central. Construction of road from Layin chairman Maikalwa primary school in Kumbotso L.G ,supply and distribution of Motorcycles across some communities in Kano central,building blocks and renovation of primary schools across the fifteen L.G of Kano central , Purchase of Motorcycles to citizens of Kano central,construction of road from sallari gidan Inuwa mai mai to babban giji layin mai unguwa tela in Tarauni L.G,.) Purchase of Transformers to some communities of Kano central,supply of sewing machines for empowerment programme in some selected L.Gs Areas in Kano central among others .

So far, he has proved to be one of the few federal lawmakers that people are happy with the impact of their representation. No matter what anyone would say, the number of dividends of democracy that this parliamentarian was able to bring to the door step of the people he is representing is unmatched.
