Indian Cultural Association: Driving Progressive Change Through Cultural Ties in Film

The Indian Cultural Association Kano spotlights the power of culture as a force for positive transformation in society, blending diverse influences to promote unity and progressive change.
In his remarks, Mr. Praveen Reddy, President of the Association, highlighted the association’s commitment to nurturing a deeper cultural connection between India and Nigeria.
This was articulated at the inauguration of a three-day Indian Film Festival held from October 22 to October 24 at Skyline University Kano.
Organized in collaboration with the Indian High Commission in Nigeria, the festival serves as a cultural bridge, using cinema to showcase India’s unique narratives while encouraging Nigerian audiences to embrace diverse perspectives.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Indian Film Festival in Kano, organized by the High Commission of India in Abuja in partnership with the Indian Cultural Association Kano,” Mr. Reddy noted.
He highlighted that the festival’s turnout over 150 attendees, including members from Sewa International, the Dostana group, Skyline University’s community, and the local Indian diaspora signified a shared enthusiasm for cultural exchange.
The film selection, featuring popular titles like Kantara, Mandela, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, RRR, Gadar 2, and Attatham, showcases the diversity of Indian storytelling and its relevance across cultural contexts.
Each film provides a window into India’s artistic heritage, exploring themes that resonate with universal values of resilience, hope, and human connection.
Through this festival, the Indian Cultural Association Kano emphasizes the role of cinema in building mutual understanding and solidarity between communities.
“Cultural exchange is a pathway to progressive change, a way to deepen our shared values,” Mr. Reddy stated.
The festival not only promotes dialogue but also reinforces the idea that cultural appreciation can be a catalyst for societal development.
