INEC Confirms APC’s Victory in Defence Minister’s Polling Unit
From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse
The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed speculations that he lost his polling unit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during last Saturday’s by-election.
This clarification was contained in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mati Ali, and made available to journalists.
According to the statement, the official result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that the Honourable Minister secured a clear victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his polling unit.
“Our attention has been drawn to the circulation of an election result from Babura Kofar Arewa Polling Unit 001, mischievously attributed to the Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar. This claim is false, untrue, and deliberately misleading,” the statement read.
The minister’s aide further explained: “We wish to categorically state that the report is nothing but the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to distort facts and tarnish the good image of the Honourable Minister.”
He clarified that the Minister’s actual polling unit is Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, where he personally cast his vote. The authentic result, duly announced by INEC, showed that the APC polled 188 votes, while the PDP secured 164 votes.
“This official result confirms that the Honourable Minister won convincingly in his polling unit in favour of the APC. We reaffirm that at Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School Polling Unit 002, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar emerged victorious during the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday, 17th August 2025,” the statement added.
The statement therefore urged the public, party members, and the media to disregard the false reports in circulation and rely only on the authentic results as declared by INEC.
