INEC Declares APC Candidate Winner of Ganye Constituency By-Election in Adamawa
From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr. Misa Musa Jauro of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Ganye Local Government Constituency by-election in Adamawa State.
Announcing the results of the by-election held on Saturday, 16th August 2025, the Returning Officer, Professor Tukur Ahmed, stated that Jauro of the APC secured 15,923 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr. Mohammed Joda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 15,794 votes.
The outcome shows that the APC candidate emerged victorious with a narrow margin of 129 votes in what was described as a highly competitive and fiercely contested election. Despite allegations and counter-allegations of electoral malpractice between the two rival parties, APC and PDP, the process was largely peaceful.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Hon. Abdulmalik Jauro in May 2024 after a brief illness. The late lawmaker, who represented the constituency, was the former Deputy Minority Leader of the Adamawa State House of Assembly under the APC.
Interestingly, the newly elected lawmaker, Misa Musa Jauro, is the elder brother of the late Abdulmalik Jauro. The contest was therefore widely seen as a litmus test between APC and PDP, particularly as the PDP has consistently claimed Ganye as its traditional stronghold, while the APC prides itself on having produced the late lawmaker in the 2023 elections.
Political observers have described the outcome as a potential pointer to the 2027 general elections, which they predict will be a decisive political showdown between the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the incumbent Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, despite the latter’s acclaimed record of delivering the dividends of democracy in the state.
Following the declaration, INEC has presented a Certificate of Return to the newly elected member, Misa Musa Jauro, at its state headquarters in Yola.
