Insecurity: House burglary, theft envelopes Adamawa University
From Umar Dankano,Yola.
The criminal activities of suspected hoodlums is threatening the security and peaceful atmosphere of the Adamawa state University Mubi’s (ADSU) environment.
Reports from the institution has shown that some of the lecturers residing in the University’s official staff quarters (campus) have recorded or experienced one case of house burgulery and theft or other security threat despite the local internal security guards Manning the quarters.
Narrating his ordeals to this paper,a lecturer attached to department of Economics in the University, Dr.Adamu Yahaya confirmed that his house was burgled three (3) consecutive times where his valuables worth over N2 Million were carted away without any trace.
Dr. Yahaya explained that his predicament started in October 2019 where his house was burgled in his absence and his HP Laptop worth N310,000 was stolen by the hoodlums hence he lodged a formal written complain to the security chief of the Institution.
According to him, the second incident occurred on the 14th June.2020 when same house ,No.A7 in the campus was broke in to by suspected thieves with all valuables carted away including rug carpets and curtains leaving the accommodation almost empty.
He added that, the third episode happened on Tuesday,23rd January.2024 in which his car’s four (4) tyres were removed and stolen in his absence noting that he reported to the University’s management through the chief security but no action has been taken so far wondering what is the motive behind the non chanllant attitude of the concern authority despite lodging complaints.
” ‘Thieves’ in the midst of ‘securities’ have done it again for the third time, the first time was a laptop, the second time was,the whole house was swept of ALL valuables including rug carpets and even curtains when the occupant was away.
“But now,the occupant was around but all four (4)tyres of his car and a 12V/75AH battery was stolen without trace in a house surrounded by ‘securities’ duty posts”. Yahaya lamented.
Dr. Yahaya registered his frustration stressing that what befail him smacks collision and suspicious that needs urgent attention.
Another non academic staff of the University who resides close to the campus staff quarter’s fence but pleaded anonimity confirmed that his car battery was stolen but the management craved a security post in their yard after lodging a complain.
He further attested to the fact that, the claims by Dr.Adamu Yahaya were real as he even visited him personally to sympathize with him during the said moments.
Contacted on the development, Registrar of the University,ADSU. Dr. Aminu Alkali on a mobile phone interview Monday said the Vice Chancellor of the University should be in a better position to speak for the Institution.
However, the Vice Chancellor,Dr. Lagu Stephen didn’t pick several calls put by this reporter to his verified MTN mobile phone number at the time of filing in this report.
