Insecurity: Northern Group Accuse Gov Dauda Lawal of Political Distraction Amid Worsening Insecurity
Growing dissatisfaction is trailing the administration of Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, as group, Northern Elders Support Group accused him of prioritising political battles over addressing the state’s persistent insecurity.
Critics argue that instead of concentrating on finding lasting solutions to banditry and violent crimes plaguing Zamfara communities, the governor appears more interested in political confrontations with the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government and key ministers, particularly those perceived to be outperforming him in governance.
According to the group, the concerned voices from the state, the majority of Zamfara residents are unhappy and deeply frustrated by the continued security challenges affecting their daily lives.
The group insisted that what the people urgently want is peace, safety, and a decisive response to insecurity that has displaced families and crippled economic activities.
“There is a clear expectation that the governor should remain focused on securing Zamfara and restoring confidence among the people.
“Unfortunately, what we see instead is a preoccupation with political mischief and policy disputes with the federal government,” the group noted.
The group likened the situation to a leader who sends away his own child and then claims to be acting in the family’s interest, a metaphor suggesting betrayal of responsibility and misplaced priorities by the governor.
They argued that such a leader could not genuinely claim to be working for the good of his people.
The group further accused Governor Lawal of contributing to political tension in the North by engaging in confrontations that undermine unity and cooperation, especially at a time when collaboration between state and federal authorities is crucial for tackling insecurity.
The group contended that rather than attacking federal ministers and political opponents, including former governor Bello Matawalle, the Zamfara governor should focus on delivering tangible results in security, governance, and development.
