From Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau
Wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriya Dauda Lawal, has assured that the teeming girl students who have been derailed by security challenges from attending their schools across the 14 local government councils of the state will soon return to their classes.
Hajiya Huriya made the assertion today (Saturday) during an assessment visit to Government Girls Arabic Secondary school (GGASS) in Gusau Zamfara State capital.
The Governor’s wife said the essence of the visit was part of the State Government’s efforts to revamp education sector especially the crusades to secure the return of girl students who have stayed home for long due to the current security situation in the state.
She further informed that, the State Government in collaboration with security agencies has concluded arrangements with a view to encourage mass return of girl students to their respective schools as well as provisions of adequate security for their stay in schools.
Briefing wife of the Governor by the Principal of GGASS, Hajiya Hafsatu Mayana, said the school had been shut down for over two years following merciless attack and abduction on Government Girls College Jangebe.
“The school is suffering desertion and lack of light that can be used to attend prep during evening classes, and the school is not well secured for students to carry on their studies free minded.
“Dearth of transportation in the school is another factor that hinded the flow of the students’ performances because, we have to borrow staffers vehicles anytime a student is sick to convey to hospital for medical attendance”, Hafsatu has stressed.
