Insecurity: Zamfara shuts down cattle markets in 5 local government areas

Zamfara state government has directed for the immediate closure of some cattles markets (Kara) in five local government areas of the state, the state Commissioner for Information, Mannir Mu’azu Haidara has announced.

The affected cattles markets according to the announcement included Danjibga and kunchin kalgo in Tsafe local government, Bagega and Wuya cattles market in Anka, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru, Dauran in Zurmi and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim local government area respectively.

The decision to temporarily closed the cattle markets was taken during the State Security Council Meeting held on Thursday, 31st August 2023 at Council Chamber Gusau was as a result of the nefarious activities of selling and loading of rustled cattles by the suspected members of armed bandits.

With this development as according to the announcement, said that the council members however, called on the security agencies and Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development to ensure strict compliance on the measures.

The council further assured the general public the relevant stakeholders commitment in monitoring and reviewing the progress with a view to restore peace in the affected cattles markets.
