International Alert earns praise for North-West Media Conference from NNPJ

The National President of the Nigeria Network of Peace Journalists (NNPJ), Ibrahim Yakubu, extends his heartfelt appreciation to International Alert for their outstanding efforts during the three-day North-West Media and Strategic Communication event held in Sokoto.
In a statement released to the press on Friday, September 8th, 2023, he not only highlighted the event’s primary objective but also lauded the exceptional dedication and commitment demonstrated by International Alert.
“This workshop provides a valuable opportunity for key stakeholders to develop alternative narratives, craft essential messages, pinpoint target audiences, and identify appropriate channels to achieve behavioral change outcomes,” he stated.
Yakubu emphasized that these endeavors focus on advocating policies and actions aimed at preventing populations from supporting violence justified by ideology, and he commends International Alert for their unwavering dedication to this noble cause.
According to him, the training has not only empowered journalists and other stakeholders in peacebuilding but has done so remarkably, enhancing activities promoting peace and harmony.
Ibrahim Yakubu noted that the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) International Alert has engaged journalists in strategic communications to help restore peace and stability in Nigeria’s North-West region. He expressed profound gratitude for their remarkable commitment and contribution.
The three-day Media and Strategic Communications (STRATCOMS) workshop, held in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to Sokoto State Government (SSG), commenced on Monday, gathering participants from Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna States. It provided journalists with essential skills for early warning detection and early response, crucial for advancing peace-oriented journalism.
He expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Paul Nyulaku-Bemshima, Country Director of International Alert, for organizing the event and conveyed the sincere hope for more conferences of this nature. Such conferences not only assist journalists in promoting peace journalism across the region but also serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
The Nigeria Network of Peace Journalists extends its heartfelt appreciation for the conference, recognizing it as a shining example of dedication and excellence in the pursuit of peace.
