Intervention Programmes: UNICEF Seeks Media Support
By Abdullahi Yusuf
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called for robust media collaboration to enhance the quality of life for Nigerian children and other citizens.
UNICEF Nigeria Representative, Ms. Christian Munduate, made the appeal during a working visit to Gusau. She highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts in supporting the Nigerian government in the areas of health, education, and nutrition.
Munduate emphasized the critical role of the media in documenting and constructively reporting UNICEF’s interventions to drive positive change in the lives of Nigerians.
“You, as journalists, need to effectively monitor and ensure accountability in the implementation of our programmes,” she said.
The UNICEF representative identified challenges such as low public awareness, poverty, and weak political will as significant barriers to improving the quality of life for Nigerians.
She urged the media to actively promote public awareness, advocate for accountability, and push for greater political commitment and funding to improve living standards.
Ms. Munduate was accompanied by Mr. Michael Juma, the Sokoto UNICEF Chief of Field Office, along with other officials.
