From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

Save the Children International (SCI), a non-governmental organization, joined the global community in celebrating the 2025 International Day of Education in Jigawa State.

The event, themed Artificial Intelligence, brought together key education stakeholders in the state to discuss critical challenges and opportunities in the education sector, particularly for children.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of Program Operations for Save the Children International, Mr. Joshua Anar, called for increased support from all stakeholders to promote children’s education in Jigawa.

“Today is a significant day for children, Save the Children International, and development partners as we align with the Ministry of Education to celebrate the 2025 International Day of Education. We have gathered education stakeholders to recognize the value of education, reaffirm government and parental commitments, and emphasize the need to invest all necessary resources to ensure every child in this region receives quality education and achieves their lifelong goals,” he stated.

He further highlighted the collaborative efforts of various organizations supporting education in Jigawa. “To achieve this, several organizations have partnered with the government to mark this occasion. Under Save the Children International, we have donors such as FCDO and the EU, who are funding education projects in the state,” he added.

Mr. Anar noted that Jigawa State is a priority for donors due to its high number of out-of-school children. As a result, SCI has committed to working with the government to improve the quality of education.

“Save the Children International believes in providing children with better opportunities to grow, ensuring their protection, survival, and right to learn. The Jigawa State Government has provided an enabling environment for our work, and we are leveraging this opportunity to ensure that children in the state, both in and out of school, receive appropriate education tailored to their age,” he emphasized.

He further explained that SCI is implementing various educational interventions across four local government areas: Kafin Hausa, Gwaram, Babura, and Malam-Madori.

“Our intervention targets children aged 5-18, both those currently in school and those who are out of school,” he said.

In her remarks, the First Lady of Jigawa State, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, represented by the Commissioner of Finance, Professor Hannatu Sabo Ahmed, commended Save the Children International for its partnership with the state government. She urged parents, teachers, and other education stakeholders to support the current administration’s efforts in advancing education in Jigawa.
