JAMB approves free registration for all persons with disabilities in 2024

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that individuals with disabilities intending to take the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination can register without any fees.

The JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while rolling out the registration process for interested candidates across the country.

While announcing that registration for the 2024 matriculation examination will commence on Monday, (today), Oloyede said JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living With Disability as a form of support.

“To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE,” he said.

According to him, measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth exercise for all candidates.

He added that audio books will now be provided for all blind candidates.

The registrar mentioned that this advancement involves the digital transformation of conventional reading materials.

“The adapted content will be available in widely-used audio formats like MP3, WMV, and WMA. This will ensure compatibility with all devices capable of streaming audio records,” he said.

He said the suggestion for the provision of audiobooks was made at the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.

“In addition to visually impaired candidates, the examination body states that individuals with conditions such as Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder will also enjoy free registration benefits,” he added.
