Jigawa Gov’s wife urges parents to adopt measures against sickle cell, VVF diseases

The wife of Jigawa state governor, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi has called on parents to adopt measures against the occurrence of Sickle cell and VVF diseases in the state.

The call was made when she visited Units of Sickle cell and VVF patients at Rasheed Shikoni Teaching Hospital Dutse and Jahun General Hospital.

She explained that the visit is part of effort to support Sickle cell and VVF patients as well as to create awareness among all relevant stakeholders on how to adopt some measures to reduce the incidents of the diseases.

Hajiya Hadiza who said, the visit is to also mark the month of Sickle cell and VVF diseases, urged couples to imbibe the habit of genotype test before marriage to reduce the risk of giving birth to sickle cell patients.

The governor’s wife also advised parents to reduce the culture of early marriage on their children to avoid the risk of VVF diseases.

She then assured the state government’s commitment to free VVF surgery to patients and free girls’ child education to reduce the menace of VVF.

While making her remarks during the visit, the Jahun General Hospital Chief Medical Director and VVF ward supervisor Sadiya Uba appealed to the state government to support the VVF ward with more equipment.
