From Mika’il Tsoho Dutse

Jigawa Government, in collaboration with Baba Azumi Foundation (BAF) and Small-Scale Women Farmers Organization (SWOFON), has trained 9,517 smallholder women and young farmers in Agroecology.

During the training at Ahmadu Bello Hall, New Secretariat Dutse, Barrister Aisha Jahun, founder of Baba Azumi Foundation, expressed gratitude for the support received from ActionAid’s SPAC project.

Barrister Jahun highlighted the project’s goal of enhancing the food and nutrition security of 120,000 smallholder women farmers and young people by providing access to early maturing seeds, seedlings, livestock, and poultry farming.

Selected from nine local governments in the pioneering stage, participants are expected to contribute to achieving food and nutrition security in the state.

Commending the collaboration with Jigawa government, Barrister Jahun pledged to continue the partnership for the state’s better future.

Alhaji Imam Muhammad, the Managing Director of JARDA, emphasized that the partnership aims to achieve agricultural development and generate employment for the youth.

He highlighted the project’s benefits, including reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, increasing incomes, and improving soil fertility for healthy and nutritious food crops. Additionally, 183 model Agroecological farms will be established across the nine local governments.

The managing director urged participants to share the acquired knowledge in their communities and encouraged other partners to follow BAF’s example for the development of Jigawa.
