Jigawa Men Raise Voices Against Women’s Rights Violation

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

A group of Jigawa men under the Baobob organization joined forces to raise their voices against gender-based violence and promote women’s rights.

As part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, they organized a march from Jigawa Television to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) headquarters.

Led by Baobob outreach coordinator Comrade Ibrahim Isyaku, the march carried the theme “Invest to Prevent Violence against Women.”

Isyaku emphasized the importance of full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law as a crucial step towards addressing gender-based violence and promoting human rights for women and children.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the Jigawa government’s efforts in domesticating the VAPP Law”

“However, we urge them to fully implement this law to effectively reduce violence against women in the state” Isyaku stated.

Expressing concern over the slow pace of justice for victims of violence, Isyaku called for speedy trials of perpetrators as a deterrent to future offenders.

He further pledged Baobob’s continued commitment to reducing violence against women and children through awareness campaigns and advocacy with relevant stakeholders.
