Jigawa NAWOJ crises soar, as Ilyasu faction rejects Ladan as new chairperson

The National Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) Jigawa state led faction of Aisha Ilyasu Abubakar described the election Hauwa Ladan led faction as null and void.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National secretary of NAWOJ Helen Udofa and made it available to news men.

According to the statement, the attention of National Secretariat of NAWOJ has been drawn to the purported conduct of an election and emergence of illegal and unconstitutional state executive committee in Jigawa state chapter, which allegedly took place on Saturday November 18, 2024.

” For the avoidance of doubt, the national Secretariat of NAWOJ did not approved and could not approve such illegal and unconstitutional act, which is contrary to the provision of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ)’s constitutions which is our body rules and ground norm.

“It is on record, that the National Secretariat of NAWOJ approved the conduct of election into the executive of Jigawa state chapter of NAWOJ on Wednesday 1,2023, during which Aisha Ilyasu Abubakar emerged as chairperson with new other executives” the statement said.

It could be recall that, on Saturday 18 November the other faction led by Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan under the supervision of National vice chairperson of NAWOJ incharge of North-west Hajiya Halima Musa and the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalist(NUJ), Jigawa state chapter comrade Garba Balangu whom inaugurated and presented the certificates of return to the new executives.

“The election I supervised today in Jigawa state has followed a due process and all the candidate has satisfied the createria laid down by the NAWOJ constitution and that of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)”

” I am appealing to the new executives to carry all union members along, cooperate with state government, NUJ, Partners and general public in championing for the interest of women and general public , as we as peace and progress of the society ” the NAWOJ vice chair stated.
