JIRS inaugurates Road Tax Enforcement Teams

As part of the efforts to improve revenue generation, The Jigawa state internal Revenue Service (JIRS) inaugurated the Road Tax enforcement Teams the state.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration, the executive chairman of JIRS Malam Nasir Sabo Idris said, about 90 number of ad hoc staff were inaugurated to operate at entry and exit points across the state.
The chairman who said, the aims is to block the leakages in the road tax collection system, added that the action is taken to checkmate the existence of unauthorised road blocks by fraudulent persons.
According to him, the ad-hoc staff are expected to boost sales of road tax stickers by the state government and improve single Haulage fees as well as to enforce compliance with the provision of Jigawa state Revenue law on road taxes.
“with this new development, we are expecting to double road taxes collection before the end of the year 2024”.
“The teams will be visible in our borders between gaya and Dutse, gujungu-gumel road, gujungu-Jahun road; gujungu-Ringim road; gumel-maigatari road; Maigatari-Niger border; Kazaure-kano road; kazaure-daura road; birnin-kudu bauchi road; gwaram-darazo road and all other entry points considered strategic for road taxes collection.
The Executive chairman also urged road users, NURTW, NARTO and all other tax payers to ensure payment of taxes in time and also through the approved channel.
“All taxes must be paid through payDirect into the designated Jigawa state Revenue Account. Payments through unapproved channels will not be accepted”, he warned.
He then charged the members of the teams to be hardworking, honest and law abiding in the discharge of their duties.
