Joint Clusters of PWDs Refute Report on ‘Slamming’ Kano Gov’t Over Disability Commission

The Joint Clusters of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State have distanced themselves from a recent online report alleging that they criticized the state government over delays in establishing a Disability Commission.
The clarification followed a publication by an online Newspaper on July 30, 2025, with the headline suggesting that disability groups had “slammed” the government on the matter.
In a statement signed by Abdulrahman Uba Daushe, Chairman of the Spinal Cord Injuries Association in Kano, the Joint Clusters described the publication as “misleading and baseless,” stressing that no such engagement or criticism was made by the coalition.
“As Joint Clusters of Persons with Disabilities in Kano State, we did not attend any engagement or make any statement criticizing the government over delays in setting up the commission,” the statement read.
According to the group, the photograph used in the report was taken during a Stakeholders Engagement on Strengthening Inclusive Support System for Vulnerable Population and Persons with Disabilities in Kano State, held on July 22, 2025. The Joint Clusters said they were neither invited nor represented at that meeting, except for “a single cluster head who attended as a personal invitee.”
The coalition said it has since contacted the meeting organizers and some participants, all of whom expressed shock at the online publication.
Reaffirming their commitment to constructive engagement and collaboration, the Joint Clusters praised the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for its openness to proposals aimed at improving the welfare of persons with disabilities.
“We value our partnership with this administration and relevant stakeholders in promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities. Our approach has always been dialogue, not confrontation,” the statement added.
The group also cautioned individuals and organizations against issuing statements in their name without authorization.
