JUST-IN: Federal Government Suspends Establishment of New Tertiary Institutions for 7 Years
The Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday approved a seven-year suspension on the establishment of new federal tertiary educational institutions across the country.
The moratorium applies to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the decision is aimed at curbing the proliferation of institutions, which has led to the deterioration of infrastructure and a shortage of qualified personnel. He stressed that the current challenge in Nigeria’s education sector is no longer about access to federal tertiary education but about improving the quality and efficiency of existing institutions.
