JUST IN: Supreme Court Upholds Judgment Halting Allocations to Rivers, Reinstates Amaewhule-led Assembly
The Supreme Court has upheld the ruling of a federal high court, which barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.
In its verdict, the apex court also ordered the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, along with other duly elected members of the assembly, to immediately resume legislative sittings.
The Amaewhule-led assembly faction is widely known to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State.
This ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state, which has seen a fierce battle for control between factions loyal to Wike and those aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
