The Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) on Sunday inaugurated its 2026 Ramadan Fair at the Trade Fair Complex, Kano, with a colourful and spiritually uplifting ceremony attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, religious scholars and key players in the business community.
The fair, organised in collaboration with the Kano State Government through the Ministry of Commerce and Investment and the Kano Markets Chairman Forum Association (KAMCHAFA), is aimed at easing the economic burden on residents by providing essential commodities at affordable prices during the holy month of Ramadan. It is also designed to strengthen Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Goni Shehu Wada Sagagi, described the Ramadan Fair as a timely and humane intervention considering current economic realities.
According to him, the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to consumer protection and trader support, especially during a sacred season marked by compassion, sacrifice and communal solidarity. He urged traders to adopt fairness, moderate pricing and empathy in line with the spirit of Ramadan.
“The true essence of Ramadan is not only in fasting but in demonstrating kindness, honesty and social responsibility. Let our markets reflect these noble values,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commended the President of KACCIMA, Ambassador Usman Hassan Darma, for revitalising the Chamber and restoring public confidence through impactful initiatives such as the Ramadan Fair.
He called on market leaders to ensure transparency, discipline and stable business operations to sustain economic growth and public trust.
Representing the Emir of Kano, the Danmalikin Kano and District Head of Rimingado, Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, urged traders to uphold integrity and fairness in their dealings. He emphasised that wealth earned through honesty attracts blessings, while exploitation and deceit undermine both spiritual and social values.
In a sermon delivered at the event, Sheikh Kamalu Inuwa, Chief Imam of Hidaya Friday Mosque, Gandu Layout, cautioned traders against cheating, forgery, hoarding and other dishonest practices. He stressed that while Islam encourages lawful trade, it strictly forbids usury, exploitation and fraud.
The cleric reminded participants that Ramadan is a period of purification — not only of the body through fasting but also of wealth through lawful earnings — urging them to conduct their businesses in accordance with Islamic teachings.
In his welcome address, KACCIMA President Ambassador Usman Hassan Darma reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to promoting ethical commerce, safeguarding consumers and supporting enterprise development. He described the Ramadan Fair as both an economic intervention and a moral obligation rooted in social responsibility.
The 2026 Ramadan Fair will run throughout the Ramadan period, offering food items, household goods and locally manufactured products at competitive prices.
KACCIMA expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government, traditional and religious leaders, market associations and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring a successful opening ceremony.
