KACRAN Commends Minister Maiha’s Commitment to Livestock Development
From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has applauded the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, for his dedication to transforming the livestock sector in Nigeria.
KACRAN’s commendation followed a recent two-day workshop organized by the Ministry of Livestock Development in partnership with the British SPRING Project. The workshop focused on boosting livestock productivity and fostering peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, the association described the Minister’s participation as inspiring and reassuring for stakeholders in the industry.
According to the association, Alhaji Maiha’s active engagement, openness to dialogue, and experience as a seasoned livestock farmer gave participants renewed confidence in the Ministry’s direction.
The Minister’s address at the workshop touched on key issues such as peaceful farmer-herder relations, food security, and the need to reposition Nigeria as a hub for processed meat and dairy products.
One of the Minister’s standout moments was his call for unity and peace as a foundation for progress. He condemned acts of crop destruction by herder youths and encouraged responsible behavior within pastoral communities.
Alhaji Maiha also challenged pastoralist leaders to embrace self-reliance by initiating cooperative banks and reducing dependency on government or donor support.
To further drive progress, the Minister issued a two-week deadline for pastoralists to identify suitable land for grazing and feed production, signaling a hands-on approach to sustainable livestock development.
KACRAN expressed its full support for the Minister’s vision and encouraged other pastoralist groups to join hands with the Ministry to realize shared goals for the sector.
The association concluded by thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Ministry, and reaffirmed its readiness to partner with the government to strengthen the livestock industry for national growth.
