KACRAN launches nationwide herder voter registration drive ensuring electoral inclusion

From Alhaji Yusuf, Dramaturu

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has launched a nationwide house-to-house voter registration campaign targeting pastoralist communities. This initiative aims to ensure herders’ participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.

KACRAN’s National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, announced in Damaturu that the sensitization began on August 7, 2025, in Yobe State’s Jakusko LGA. The effort directly supports INEC’s resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

INEC’s year-long Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) from August 18, 2025, to August 30, 2026, will commence with online registration followed by in-person sign-ups at 811 centers nationwide. Operations will run on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding public holidays.

KACRAN emphasizes the critical need to include pastoralists despite occupational challenges. The association is committed to overcoming barriers like remote locations and digital literacy gaps that risk excluding herders.

According to the statement, the sensitization will educate herders on registering new voters (18+), assist with card replacement and migration updates, and prepare pastoralists for electoral participation including candidacy in the 2027 general elections.

Bello stated,”We can’t allow millions of pastoralists to be disenfranchised due to occupational constraints or lack of awareness. Our members need tailored guidance to navigate digital processes in low-infrastructure areas.”

KACRAN praised INEC’s inclusive approach (including inmate registration) and stressed that herders equally deserve constitutional rights. The association positions voter enrollment as vital for Nigeria’s democratic development.

KACRAN urges all government tiers to emulate Yobe State’s support model and calls for national cooperation with INEC’s mission to register voters, update records, and expand electoral participation opportunities.
