Kaduna Journalists Engage with PAVE on Anti-Extremism Efforts
From Umme Hajara Abubakar, Kaduna
The Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE), a non-governmental organization, has called for collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, to raise awareness and counter violent extremism through media advocacy.
PAVE’s Kaduna State Team Lead, Mr. Eric John, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the NUJ leadership in Kaduna.
Mr. John emphasized the media’s role in addressing the root causes of violent extremism, including misinformation and societal division.
He said the organization seeks media partnership to promote factual reporting, amplify peace narratives, and encourage dialogue.
“The media can shape public perception and influence responses to extremism. We believe collaboration with journalists is key in this effort,” he said.
He noted that the PAVE Kaduna Network consists of civil society groups, community leaders, and youth organizations working to promote peace across the state and the wider North West region.
In response, NUJ Kaduna Chairman, Alhaji Abdulgafar Alabelewe, expressed the union’s willingness to support initiatives that promote peace and social cohesion.
“As journalists, we are committed to developmental reporting and will support efforts aimed at preventing violent extremism. We are also open to capacity-building opportunities that enhance our understanding of such initiatives,” he said.
