The Kano Network of NGOs (KANET) has announced its new Executive Committee members as part of activities marking the 2026 World NGO Day, with an inauguration Iftar held yesterday at the AHBN Office in Kano.
The Iftar, organised by the Aminu Magashi Garba (AMG) Foundation in collaboration with KANET, brought together the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Kano State on NGOs, Hon. Nasiru Isa Dikko (Jarma); the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Reformatory Institutions, Hon. Abubakar Muhammad Inuwa; veterans in the NGO sector; and members of the media.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba expressed delight over the gathering, highlighting the significance of the day for civil society organisations.

He also gave a brief history of KANET, explaining that the network was established in 2002 following a series of engagements and consultations among various organisations, which eventually led to the formation of a coalition of non-governmental organisations in the state.
According to him, the development also led to the creation of the Office of the Special Adviser on NGOs during the administration of former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, a structure that has been sustained to date.
Dr. Magashi urged the newly inaugurated leadership to remain focused and work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Kano State on NGOs, Hon. Nasiru Isa Dikko (Jarma), noted that the Kano State Government holds World NGO Day in high regard, as demonstrated by its continued engagement with stakeholders in the NGO sector.

He said integrity and commitment were among the qualities that have distinguished Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba within the civil society space.
Dikko advised the newly elected KANET leaders to emulate Dr. Magashi’s dedication and perseverance in serving the civil society community, assuring them that his office would work closely with the new leadership to achieve its mandate.
Speaking on behalf of the new leadership, the Chairman of KANET, Barr. Nura Ahmad Muhammad, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the team to steer the affairs of the network.

He assured members that the new leadership would sustain the efforts of previous executives and build upon their achievements.
Barr. Nura also noted that the team is largely composed of young professionals, describing it as a reflection of the energy, commitment and readiness of the leadership to deliver on its mandate. He called on stakeholders to support the network in achieving its goals.
Also speaking, the Co-Chair of KANET, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, commended Dr. Magashi for his sustained support and commitment to the growth of the network over the years. She assured members that the new leadership would strive to meet and surpass expectations.
