Kano Assembly Debunks Online Report, Labels it Misleading and Baseless

The Kano State House of Assembly has strongly refuted an online report by Freedom Radio which allegedly assessed the performance of its members based on motions moved during plenary sessions, describing the publication as misleading, harmful, and untrue.

In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Assembly, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the Assembly criticized the report as baseless and lacking factual integrity. The statement accused the media platform involved of spreading unverified information and questioned the credibility and professionalism of the outlets that carried the story.

According to the statement, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, the 10th Assembly has recorded notable achievements. These include presiding over more than 300 plenary sittings and coordinating over 200 motions and bills.

The Assembly clarified that the role of the Speaker is not necessarily to move motions but to ensure the smooth functioning of legislative activities.
The Speaker’s duties, as outlined in the statement, include presiding over sessions, approving votes and proceedings, coordinating debates, and administering oaths to members.

“It is misleading to judge the Speaker and Honourable Members solely on the number of motions moved,” the statement read, adding that such an assessment misrepresents the workings of the legislature.

The Assembly called on the people of Kano State to disregard the online publication and urged media organizations to adhere to factual and responsible journalism, avoiding content that could mislead the public or serve ulterior motives.
